Carly Pierson: In 2002, while working as a wildland firefighter for the National Park Service, Carly suffered a fall leaving her paralyzed from the waist down. After her injury, she became active in numerous sports like snow skiing, triathlons, handcycling, and water skiing. Being very active prior to her injury, sports became an important aspect of bridging the gap between her life before the injury and after. “It’s not really about specific sports or how you go about playing, what’s important is getting out there, redefining yourself and finding an outlet.” Carly, has two children, ages eleven and five. Outside of taking care of two children, Carly is a motivational speaker, the co-director of Knoxville Sled Hockey adaptive team, and mentor for the Tennessee Survivors Network Program through UT Medical Center.
Taylor Carpenter: Hi my name is Taylor, I am the founder of STATIC Climbing! I fell in love with climbing while I was living in Mammoth about a decade ago. When I moved down to San Diego in 2013 I was surrounded by so many incredibly talented friends they really gave me the inspiration to set out on my own path. My grandparents bought me my first sewing machine for my 24th birthday and I taught myself how to sew. From the first chalk bag I ever designed which took 3 1/2 days to having a line in REI and shipping STATIC gear to climbers around the world, it has truly been the adventure of a lifetime. Running your own company and being your own boss is by far the toughest thing I have ever done, but at the end of the day I can look back and really feel proud that I am living my own dream and nothing feels better than that.
