THE QUICK AND DIRTY ON HOW OBL WORKS:
Onsight Bouldering League is a 8-week team competition that rewards personal achievements rather than climbing grades. Every 2 weeks, teams of 4 boulderers pick up score cards and tackle that week’s designated OBL boulder problems. Teams will be scored and compete against one another each competition week. Battle it out for 4 competition weeks and the teams with the best cumulative scores will go head to head in the OBL Championship Tournament!
STEP 1: FORM YOUR TEAM
One team = 4 Boulderers (We highly suggest to have one alternate for weeks when someone plays hookie or drops out). All climbing levels are welcome.
STEP 2: REGISTER YOUR TEAM
Got your team together? Great. Designate one person to register by emailing programs@onsightrockgym.com or at the front desk. Team members must be Onsight members, punch pass holders, or purchase a day pass for each visit. Registration fee is $50 per team - All teams MUST be registered by Sunday, October 02. Once registered, be sure to “Like” our Facebook page to stay updated and check this website page regularly for scores, rankings, and announcements: www.onsightrockgym.com/obl
STEP 3: HOW COMPETITIONS WORK
OBL competition weeks are every other week for a total of 4 competition weeks: October 03, October 17, October 31, November 14.
Teams can practice Monday - Friday 7 p.m - 10:00 p.m or Tuesday/Thursday 8 a.m - 11 a.m. Your team will get a scorecard from the front and climb the designated boulder problems for that week. Please use the honor system. During non-competition weeks, we’ll set new problems, calculate scores, and post them online. After 4 weeks of competitions, we will host a OBL Championship Tournament on December 1st where teams will battle it out for the final.
Scoring and THE HANDICAP SYSTEM
We’re mixing the scoring system up this year. This year your score will be based on your top 5 climbs and an overall average of your team.
IMPORTANT RULES
There are no do-overs during competition weeks
Four team members must all come together, on the same day, and climb OBL competition problems in one session. Scorecards must be turned in by the end of the bouldering session.
If you are using an Alternate Team Member, it must be stated at the time your team picks up the scorecard for that competition day.
No scorecard turned in for that week = 0 points
Scorecards completed based on honor system. Sandbaggers and cheaters will be expelled from this competition and banned from competing in future OBL competitions.
Only designated OBL problems count towards your score.
If a team member quits the league before completion of the 10 weeks AND there is no alternate for the team, another team member may be added in his/her place or the team may choose to continue on with one member short.
